A Letter From Our Founder - Ken Gordon

In 2013, I had my first taste of mochi ice cream. 


It was love at first bite. I chased the thrill those first few months … hunting down all the different mochi flavors and brands I could find. It didn’t take long to realize there just wasn’t much “there” there. 


I knew that mochi ice cream could be something truly special -- unique! I wanted to be the one to elevate the experience, make the most of the beauty, taste and unique bite-size appeal they offered. Nobody else was doing it.


I’m a native New Yorker and a finance professional by trade. But I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart (starting with a number of unique businesses I launched when I was a teen). 


Once I decided mochi would be my passion, I poured heart and soul into learning the craft and started making connections with some of New York’s top chefs, who would inspire and help grow our business (more about that later!).


Today, I’m proud to say that our mochi is served across the country, in some of the best-known asian restaurants, including Nobu and Tao. We’re still in the earliest days of selling online and in order to be sure our customers get the freshest, best products, we’re only shipping to the east coast for now, but stay tuned -- that will change. (And if you’re outside of our shipping zone, leave a comment below to let us know where you are -- we’re mapping out a plan to get our mochi out to you!).


When you do get the chance to taste our mochi, I’m sure you won’t be thinking about our ratio of rice dough to ice cream, or where we source our shiso mint -- you won’t obsess about developing complex, adventurous flavors or the optimal methods for tempering each piece.


But we do every day. And that’s what sets our mochi apart.


“Imagination in Every Bite” represents everything that excites me about the Mochidoki experience and everything I hope will inspire you, your family and friends to fall in love with us from the moment you pop one of our mochi ice cream bites into your mouth!
